Microsoft’s Seeing AI will help blind people understand the world around

Microsoft’s Seeing AI is the company’s pretty big step in the area of Artificial Intelligence.

The new app will help blind people understand the world around them. The input from the mobile’s camera is used to interpret the surrounding. If you are pointing at a text, the app will read it out for you. The app is available for free in the iTunes Store.

There are five options in Microsoft’s seeing AI app which are Product, Person, Document & Scene. Each of these will do its respective functionality. If the blind person holds it up against text or product or people, it will recognise what type of input it is, and then interprets it to the person.

The App also automatically uses the flash to get better pictures.

The Scene input is still in progress which expects to compress even thousands words in a picture into fewer numbers. It is pretty clear that the computer vision algorithms are running in the cloud. So, the app must be power confusing.
